Summer is officially here, which means the hot weather is now upon us. After a long and rainy winter, most of us are welcoming the sunshine. However, there’s a fine line between comfortable and unbearable heat. When the temperatures do creep up too high, there are things we can do to combat the heat. Are you looking for ways to stay cool this summer without breaking the bank? As your trusted heating and cooling service provider, we’ve got you covered! We’ve gathered some helpful tips for surviving the summer heat!
UTILIZE FANS
Using personal, box, and ceiling fans are great for getting air movement around your space on a hot day. Circulating air will help keep you comfortable, while also reducing the temperature inside your home. Fans also use less energy than air conditioning, which will help save you money. If you don’t currently own any fans, we recommend investing in one (or a few). Be sure to do this BEFORE a heatwave hits, because they tend to fly off the shelves in stores when they’re needed most.
TURN OFF UNUSED TV AND COMPUTER SCREENS
Televisions and computer monitors generate heat and you’ll feel it, especially in smaller spaces. If they’re not being used, we recommend turning them off. This can actually help you save on your energy bill twice- which is always a great thing! This small and simple task can make a huge difference!
AVOID USING YOUR OVEN
If you don’t have to use your oven, don’t do it! This will help you avoid adding unnecessary heat to your home, as your oven will generate a lot of heat. Consider using a barbecue or air fryer instead. Both options are able to cook most things, so you won’t even be limiting your food options.
CLOSE YOUR WINDOWS, BLINDS, AND CURTAINS
Keeping your windows closed and coverings drawn during the afternoon and evening can reduce your cooling costs significantly. Blackout curtains also help keeping direct sunlight out of your home, which will help to reduce the natural heat. Your air conditioning unit won’t have to work as hard to keep your house cool, which also reduces wear and tear. This can expand the life of your cooling system and save money on long-term repairs.
GET A PROGRAMMABLE THERMOSTAT
Making the upgrade to a programmable thermostat will allow your air conditioning unit to maintain your desired temperature more efficiently. There are several benefits to having a thermostat you can program, including convenience. You can preset the temperatures you want throughout the day in advance and your system will self-regulate. You won’t have to manually adjust the temperature throughout the day, you can just set it and forget it.
